How to move and back up a Kliper editing project
Save a .kliper project with its video, audio, images, and pointer data. Move the complete folder, relink missing files, and check the copy before deleting sources.
A finished MP4 and an editable project solve different problems. The MP4 is ready to watch. The project keeps the clip arrangement, text, captions, audio references, and other editing choices so you can change them later.
A .kliper file can reference media in other folders. To move or back up an edit reliably, save a collected-media copy and keep its project file and assets together. Then open that copy and check it before removing anything from the original location.
Decide whether you need the result or the editable work
For a finished tutorial, keep the reviewed video and any SRT captions you intend to use. For another revision, also keep the .kliper project and every source it references. Those can include multiple videos, separate recorded audio, imported narration, images, pointer tracks, and generated highlight assets.
A local editing draft is a recovery aid, not a substitute for a portable project backup. Drafts are managed in Settings → Media & Storage and remain tied to the recording and local app data. Save a project deliberately when you need to move the work.
Save the project with copies of its media
In Studio, open Project and choose Save project as…. Enable Copy video, images, and audio into a project folder when preparing a movable copy. Choose a clear name and wait for the save to finish.
With that option, Kliper copies referenced media into an assets folder associated with the .kliper file. Without it, media stays in its current locations, and the project continues to depend on those files. A project saved to a backup drive is not self-contained merely because the .kliper file is on that drive.
Use Show in folder after saving to locate the result. Confirm that the project and its assets are both present before starting the transfer.
Move the project file and assets folder together
Put the saved project and its assets folder in the same parent folder, then copy that complete set to the destination. If you make an archive for transfer, archive the complete set rather than selecting only the small .kliper file.
Keep the internal file arrangement intact. Moving one imported song or renaming an asset independently can leave a reference missing. Also allow enough space for the original source videos: a portable project can be much larger than the final export.
Use a meaningful folder name such as a project name and revision date. If a sync service is involved, wait until every asset has completed copying before opening the project on the second computer.
Open the copied project and verify the media
Use Open project in the Library or Studio's Project dialog and select the copied .kliper file. Check each source clip, not only the first frame. Play across file boundaries, inspect imported images, listen to separate audio, and confirm that captions and focus effects remain where you expect.
If Kliper asks you to locate a missing file, choose the matching original. Source fingerprint checks can reject a different or modified video, even when its name looks similar. Find the actual file rather than substituting a lower-resolution preview or re-encoded export.
Export a short test from the copy if this is an important handoff. A folder that copied without an operating-system error can still be incomplete for the editing task.
Keep originals until the backup is checked
Preserve the source location until you have reopened and verified the collected copy. Do not treat an editor preview cache as a source backup: preview copies are temporary editing aids, while export and media collection use the originals.
Keep another copy appropriate to the importance of the work. A backup on the same failing drive may not help if that drive is lost. This is practical file handling, not a promise that any particular storage service prevents loss.
Removing a draft or library entry does not prove the referenced source file was deleted. Likewise, uninstalling the app may leave recordings, projects, and settings behind. Manage the actual saved folders when cleaning up.
Check the complete folder before sharing it
A portable project can include untrimmed video and separate audio that the finished MP4 does not reveal. A redaction layer covers the exported picture; it does not erase the source in the assets folder. Send only the export when the recipient does not need editable originals.
Read how to cover private details before sharing, and see Kliper's privacy policy for the difference between local files and optional uploads. A successful handoff means the recipient has the intended files, can open the project when needed, and has no unnecessary private source material.
